Not only are our pediatric surgeons experts in the care of common conditions such as appendicitis or hernia repair, but our team is also renowned for treatment of more complex conditions such as neonatal congenital anomalies, childhood cancers, and traumas. We are also specialists in minimally invasive surgical techniques.
The Pediatric Surgery Department at Luxor medical center also offers emergency and continuing care to pediatric patients who are admitted to the hospital through our children’s trauma center and emergency department.
Pediatric patients recover from surgery in recovery rooms staffed by nurses, doctors and technicians who are uniquely knowledgeable and dedicated to pediatric surgery patients. Should a child require intensive care, our critical care units are staffed by board-certified intensivists who work hand-in-hand with the pediatric surgeons in charge of the child’s care.
Pain is a major concern for children and their parents. All members of our team are acutely aware of pain issues in children and are available to respond to and treat pain concerns appropriately, as quickly as possible.
Our intensive care units also feature Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) for patients who are suffering from severe illness or infection. ECMO is a life-saving technique that mimics the natural function of the heart and lungs, allowing an infant or child to rest while natural healing of the affected organs takes place.
Luxor medical center is the only pediatric care facility in the community to offer this unique ECMO service to its patients.
Our expertise in children allows for us to perform the majority of surgical procedures as same day surgery where the patient is sent home the same day to recover in a familiar setting. There are situations where the surgeon will decide to admit the child to the medical center overnight or as long as is necessary to provide the best care possible.
