Before Your Surgery

Preparing for your surgery.

We understand that undergoing surgery can be a stressful experience, and you probably have questions about your procedure and hospital stay. The following information is designed to help you feel informed, comfortable and welcomed while you’re with us.

What to Bring
To ensure your safety and the accuracy and integrity of your medical records, you will be asked to provide proof of your identity upon check-in. Please be sure to bring a government-issued ID card (e.g., driver’s license, passport, etc.), as well as your insurance card. We also welcome and encourage you to bring personal items, which will make your hospital stay as comfortable as possible. Hospital gowns are provided, but you may wish to bring your own:

  • Nightwear
  • Robe
  • Slippers
  • Toiletries

What NOT to Bring
Since most small electrical appliances do not meet the strict electrical safety regulations of the medical centerl, we ask that you please leave them at home. This includes items such as:

  • Shavers
  • Hairdryers
  • Radios

You may want to keep a small amount of money with you to purchase newspapers or whatever else of your need. However, expensive items like jewelry or large sums of money should be left at home. If that’s not possible, you may ask your nurse to have your valuables stored in your room's safe. Ask your nurse to make arrangements to retrieve items stored in the safe weekdays between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm. If you are going to be discharged on the weekend, someone from Safety and Security will retrieve your valuables.

If you are bringing dentures, eyeglasses or a hearing aid with you, please be sure to tell the admitting nurse that you have these items. It is the goal of the hospital to ensure all patient property remains safeguarded during your stay.
